GCSE Journey

DEVELOPMENT AND CONSOLIDATION

After foundations have been laid through the Lancaster Learning programme, pupils enter Year 9 ready to start their GCSE curriculum, as they work towards their first external exams taken in Year 11.

The core subjects for GCSE (or IGCSE) are English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Pupils also select four subjects chosen from Art and Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Drama, French, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Design Technology and Spanish. All pupils also follow supplementary courses in PSHEE through the tutoring system.

During the Lent Term Third Form pupils and parents have the option to discuss their GCSE option choices with their teachers at our GCSE Options Evening. Pupils will also meet with their tutor to consider which combination of subjects to study at GCSE (or IGCSE) level. The combination should reflect the pupil’s aptitudes and interests but should also address what may be needed in the future. Pupils will be asked to submit their choices during, or immediately following, the GCSE Options Evening.
